The first thought I had was that I came 50 years too late, or 25 years, minimally. This place is, was, glorious. Majority of the houses are the beach shore neatly decorative and I found it a treat in a windy Sunday by the beach.
According to Wikipedia (no, I didn't talk to the townies), the development of other Jersey cities closer to the interstate highways decrease the number of the tourists each year. The Casino, the theatre and the opening of Six Flag, which is a lot closer to the interstate than Asbury Park, totally killed the amusement park business. The town is more like ghost town, but many of the architectures are just worthy for trip.
The town is actually on the way to come back. The casino is, slowly, being renovated to a public market. The glory is faded, but what's remained is still beautful.
